1 x Allium gigantheum

Allium giganteum, or giant ornamental onion, is a dramatic bulb for creating height and structure in the garden. Its tall stems and large spherical purple flower heads make a strong statement in borders, perennial beds, and naturalistic plantings.

The distinctive flowers are also useful in cut-flower arrangements and can retain their shape as they dry. Their nectar-rich blooms attract bees and other pollinators, adding wildlife value to ornamental planting schemes.

Watering and Care

Water regularly during dry periods and keep the soil lightly moist without making it soggy.

Maintenance

Remove spent flowers and dead foliage as needed. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering.

Location

Plant in full sun and well-draining soil. These bulbs perform best when excess water can drain away quickly.

Tip

Plant in groups or combine with perennials for a strong architectural effect in the garden.
