25 x Drumstick alliums

Allium sphaerocephalon, often called drumstick allium, is valued for its unusual oval flower heads and slender stems. Its flowers develop from green to rosy-purple, adding movement and texture to sunny borders, prairie-style plantings, and informal gardens.

The airy stems are useful in fresh and dried floral arrangements, where the unusual flower shape adds structure. In the garden, the blooms can also provide a source of nectar for bees and other pollinating insects.

Watering and Care

Water regularly during dry periods and keep the soil moist but never waterlogged. Water at the base of the plant to help prevent fungal problems.

Maintenance

Remove dead leaves and spent flowers as needed. A small amount of organic fertilizer in spring can support healthy growth.

Location

Choose a sunny location with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Well-draining soil helps prevent root problems.

Tip

This ornamental onion works beautifully in borders and containers. Its distinctive blooms can attract butterflies and bees.
