Ornamental onion

Allium karataviense is immediately recognisable by its broad blue-green leaves and large rounded flower heads in soft shades of pink. Its naturally compact habit makes it particularly suitable for rock gardens, border edges, and decorative containers where both foliage and flowers can be fully appreciated. Blooming in spring, the nectar-rich blossoms attract a variety of pollinating insects to the garden. Even after flowering, the distinctive foliage continues to provide ornamental value for an extended period.

Care/Water

Allium karataviense requires regular watering during the growing season. Keep the soil lightly moist but well-draining to prevent root rot. During dry periods, water in the morning or evening to provide optimal hydration.

Maintenance

Regularly remove old flowers and dried leaves. Trim weak or damaged shoots to maintain a compact and healthy plant. Light spring fertilization supports strong stems and abundant blooms.

Location

Prefers sunny to partially shaded locations with well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. Ideal for flower beds, borders, and rock gardens, adding height and structure with its decorative leaves and flowers.

Tip

Attracts bees and butterflies. Regular removal of faded blooms keeps the plant healthy, attractive, and flowering abundantly.
