Blue star

Amsonia illustris is distinguished by its glossy dark green leaves and masses of soft blue star-shaped flowers that emerge in late spring. As autumn arrives, the foliage transforms into vivid shades of golden yellow, creating a spectacular seasonal display that extends its decorative value far beyond flowering. It flourishes in fertile, well-drained soil and thrives in both sunny and lightly shaded locations. With its refined growth habit and exceptional longevity, this perennial is a superb addition to elegant garden designs.

Care/Water

Amsonia illustris requires consistent watering during the growing season. Keep the soil lightly moist but avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot. Water in the morning or evening during hot summer days.

Maintenance

Regularly remove old leaves and faded flowers. Trim weak or damaged shoots to promote strong growth. Light spring fertilization supports flower development and strong stems.

Location

Prefers sunny to partially shaded spots with humus-rich, well-draining soil. Ideal for flower beds, borders, or natural-style gardens, providing decorative height and color.
