Wild ginger

Asarum caudatum is an attractive evergreen ground cover that forms dense carpets of glossy heart-shaped leaves in shaded gardens. Curious purple-brown flowers appear close to the ground beneath the foliage, adding subtle botanical interest during the growing season. This woodland perennial thrives in moist, humus-rich soil and is particularly effective beneath trees, shrubs, and along woodland paths. Its vigorous growth creates a tidy, natural covering that remains decorative all year long.

Care/Water

Asarum caudatum requires regular watering during the growing season. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Water especially on hot, dry days in the morning or evening for optimal care.

Maintenance

Regularly remove dead leaves to make room for new foliage and prevent disease. Light spring fertilization supports strong, healthy growth. Prune only if necessary to maintain the natural shape of the plant.

Location

Prefers partially shaded to shaded areas with humus-rich, well-draining soil. Ideal for shady beds, under trees, or woodland gardens where the evergreen foliage is particularly decorative.

Tip

Check soil moisture regularly, especially during dry periods, to keep the plant healthy and vibrant. Asarum caudatum is low-maintenance and well-suited for shady, moist locations.
