Yellow asphodel

Asphodeline lutea impresses with tall, slender flower stems that carry numerous star-shaped, bright yellow flowers in late spring. The narrow blue-green foliage resembles ornamental grasses and gives the plant an elegant appearance. This hardy perennial adds height and structure to sunny borders, gravel gardens, and Mediterranean-style plantings and is frequently visited by bees.

Watering and Care

Asphodeline lutea grows best in well-drained soil that remains lightly moist without becoming waterlogged. During extended dry spells, additional watering helps maintain healthy growth and abundant flowering. Avoid overly wet conditions, as constantly saturated roots may reduce plant vigor.

Maintenance

Regularly removing faded flowers helps extend the display and keeps the plant looking tidy. Old stems and foliage can be cut back in early spring to encourage fresh new growth.

Location

A position in full sun or partial shade provides ideal growing conditions. Good light levels combined with suitable soil will encourage strong growth and reliable flowering.

Tip

Asphodeline lutea is an excellent choice for naturalistic borders and mixed perennial plantings. Many varieties are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators.

Asphodeline lutea adds decorative accents to beds with tall yellow flower spikes. Particularly in sunny borders, it looks lively and cheerful.
