Fagus sylvatica 'Atropunicea' Purple Beech (Copper Beech) is a stunning deciduous tree with copper-purple foliage that deepens through the seasons. Its graceful form and smooth bark add refined character to any space. This robust specimen develops a broad, elegant crown and steady growth in temperate climates. It offers robust growth and a strong, stately presence. Ideal for creating natural focal points in gardens and parks, it brings year-round texture and beauty to the landscape with a timeless silhouette. Year-round presence and color.

Care and Watering

Fagus sylvatica 'Atropunicea' prefers moist, well-drained soil; keep evenly moist, especially in early years, and avoid waterlogging. Mulch to conserve moisture and regulate roots, with a light top-dressing each spring.

Maintenance

Prune only for shape after leaf-fall or remove dead wood. Feed sparingly in poor soils and check for pests. Protect from strong winds to prevent trunk damage.

Location

Choose a sheltered site with morning sun and afternoon shade in hot climates; provide a woodland-like setting for best foliage color and growth.

Tips

Plant in well-drained, neutral to slightly acidic soil; water deeply rather than frequent shallow watering; monitor for root competition and apply mulch lightly around the root zone.

The Fagus sylvatica 'Atropunicea' Red Beech adds immediate ornamental value with deep, dark red leaf colors that provide contrast and structure in any garden. Perfect for tree and deciduous-tree collections and attractive as a solitary specimen or in groups.
