The Betterbuxus ‘Skylight’ is a hybrid boxwood that stands out for its strong resistance to both boxwood blight and boxwood caterpillars, making it ideal for gardens that are often affected by these pests. This innovative boxwood is a cross between different boxwood species and combines the best of both: fast-growing ability and excellent disease resistance. The ‘Skylight’ has shiny, medium green leaves that provide a fresh look all year round. 

This boxwood was developed by the Belgian nursery Herplant and has been successfully tested in the Palace Gardens of Paleis Het Loo. The plant has a strong root structure, allowing it to thrive in various soil types, from sandy to clayey soils, as long as the soil is well-drained. It is the perfect choice for those looking for a boxwood that requires little maintenance but still offers an elegant and low-maintenance look. 

With a final height of approximately 150 cm, the Betterbuxus ‘Skylight’ is ideal for creating medium-height hedges, topiary, or as an accent in a sleek garden. Due to its rapid growth and robust characteristics, this boxwood offers long-lasting and healthy growth, even under less than ideal conditions. 

Water and care  


The Betterbuxus ‘Skylight’ is an easy-care plant that does not require much water. Ensure that the soil is well-drained and water regularly, especially during dry periods. However, avoid letting the roots stand in waterlogged soil, as this can damage the plant. 


Maintenance 


Although the Betterbuxus ‘Skylight’ is naturally resistant to disease, it is still important to prune the plant annually to maintain its shape. Prune the plant in the spring to stimulate new growth and remove dead or damaged branches. This boxwood is suitable for both light shaping and severe pruning, depending on the desired effect.

The Betterbuxus ‘Skylight’ thrives in both sun and partial shade. Although it adapts to different light conditions, it will grow best in a location where it receives sufficient sunlight. Ensure that the plant is in well-drained soil, preferably in pH-neutral or slightly acidic soil.
