Watering and care
Water deeply once a week in dry summers, letting the topsoil dry before the next drink. Established plants tolerate drought but avoid soggy soil to protect the roots.
Maintenance
Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape, remove dead wood, and top up with slow-release fertiliser in spring.
Position
Plant in full sun on well-drained, preferably alkaline soil. Avoid heavy clay and mulch to keep roots cool and prevent rot.
Tips
Mulch lightly, monitor for pests, and consider softwood cuttings in summer for propagation.
