- Robust Phragmites australis for natural shoreline vegetation.
- Effective shoreline protection against erosion and water currents.
- Suitable for deep and shallow waters; marsh plant.
- Attractive to wildlife and birds.
- Low maintenance and vigorous growth.
Care and Watering
Phragmites australis needs moist soil and plenty of sun. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently damp, especially in dry spells, and avoid drought. In pots, ensure good drainage and shallow water around the plant.
Maintenance
Prune old stalks to 6–12 inches in late winter. Divide clumps every 3–4 years to control spread and refresh growth.
Location
Plant in full sun with rich, wet soil near ponds or water features. Allow ample space for its clumps to expand and use a root barrier if needed.
Tips
Use native varieties where possible, cover with mulch to retain moisture, and check local regulations before planting to prevent invasive spread.
