  • Low-maintenance and winter-hardy for easy care.
Nepeta govaniana is a hardy perennial with aromatic, gray-green foliage and lavender flowers. This plant delivers fragrant leaves and a lively presence to any garden bed. It thrives in sun to partial shade, forms a compact clump, and attracts pollinators with its cheerful blooms. A versatile addition for herb beds, borders, or natural plots, offering steady growth and a pleasant herbaceous scent.

Care and Watering

Nepeta govaniana (Catmint) loves well-drained soil. Water when the top inch dries; avoid soggy roots and misting in cool shade. In containers, use a light, airy mix with perlite.

Maintenance

Trim after bloom and divide every 2–3 years for vigor.

Location

Full sun to light shade; warm, sheltered spots with good drainage.

Tips

Deadhead to lengthen flowering, mulch lightly, and ensure good air flow to prevent mildew. Pair with oregano or lavender in borders for contrast.

Govan's catmint offers a light, prairie-like look with silvery foliage and finely branched stems. The lilac-blue flowers form color patches from spring to summer and create that characteristic soft texture in borders. Because of its abundant flowering, it attracts a notable number of butterflies and bees, ideal for a lively, natural accent in the garden.
