Chiastophyllum oppositifolium Opposite-Leaved Chiastophyllum (Also Called Opposite-Leaved Stonecrop) is a distinctive succulent with fleshy leaves arranged in pairs along wiry stems, creating a striking, evergreen sight.
This plant forms compact rosettes and bears small, starry flowers in season; its creeping habit adds natural texture to any garden setting.
Prefers well-drained soil and sun to partial shade, tolerates a range of conditions, and brings a calm, resilient vibe to your collection.
Care and Watering
Bright, indirect light and cool to moderate temps suit Chiastophyllum oppositifolium. Water evenly in growing season, letting the top inch dry before the next drink; avoid soggy soil and use a well-draining mix.
Maintenance
Trim dead leaves, prune leggy growth in spring, and check for pests. Repot every 2–3 years and feed lightly in spring and summer.
Location and Tips
Place in a bright spot with good air flow and humidity. Use a drainage-friendly pot and soil; mist occasionally. Tip: let the soil dry slightly between waterings and snip propagations for a fuller look.
Chiastophyllum oppositifolium 'Goudmosssel' adds a distinctive accent with compact, gold-green cushions and subtle flowering in spring and summer. It creates playful lines and texture in rock and wall gardens and forms attractive low beds in border compositions.
As a perennial plant and atmospheric garden plant within the categories spring bloomers and summer bloomers, it offers a beautiful contrast with stone and coarser foliage plants.
