Brook thistle 'Atropurpureum'

Cirsium rivulare 'Atropurpureum' develops striking deep purple-red flower heads that appear on sturdy upright stems above the fresh green foliage. This elegant wild perennial flowers from early summer through summer and adds intense colour accents to naturalistic plantings. Its nectar-rich flowers are especially popular with butterflies and bees.

Watering and Care

Cirsium rivulare 'Atropurpureum' grows best in well-drained soil that remains lightly moist without becoming waterlogged. During extended dry spells, additional watering helps maintain healthy growth and abundant flowering. Avoid overly wet conditions, as constantly saturated roots may reduce plant vigor.

Maintenance

Regularly removing faded flowers helps extend the display and keeps the plant looking tidy. Old stems and foliage can be cut back in early spring to encourage fresh new growth.

Location

A position in full sun or partial shade provides ideal growing conditions. Good light levels combined with suitable soil will encourage strong growth and reliable flowering.
