Rockrose

Cistus obtusifolius is a compact evergreen shrub with dark green foliage and large white flowers with a bright yellow centre. The early summer flowering period creates a Mediterranean atmosphere in sunny borders and gravel gardens. This robust plant impresses with its natural appearance and attractive combination of flowers and evergreen foliage.

Watering and Care

Cistus obtusifolius grows best in well-drained soil that remains lightly moist without becoming waterlogged. During extended dry spells, additional watering helps maintain healthy growth and abundant flowering. Avoid overly wet conditions, as constantly saturated roots may reduce plant vigor.

Maintenance

Regularly removing faded flowers helps extend the display and keeps the plant looking tidy. Old stems and foliage can be cut back in early spring to encourage fresh new growth.

Location

A position in full sun or partial shade provides ideal growing conditions. Good light levels combined with suitable soil will encourage strong growth and reliable flowering.

Tip

Cistus obtusifolius is an excellent choice for naturalistic borders and mixed perennial plantings. Many varieties are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators.

Cistus obtusifolius adds decorative accents to beds with silvery-green leaves and delicate pink flowers. Particularly in Mediterranean or sunny gardens, it looks fresh and attractive.

The plant grows bushy and provides structure to the bed.
