Indian umbrella

Darmera peltata stands out with exceptionally large, shield-shaped leaves that create impressive accents along pond edges and in moist borders. In early spring, dense clusters of soft pink flowers appear on strong stems before the foliage develops. In autumn, the leaves turn attractive shades of red and bronze, providing additional seasonal interest.

Watering and Care

Darmera peltata grows best in well-drained soil that remains lightly moist without becoming waterlogged. During extended dry spells, additional watering helps maintain healthy growth and abundant flowering. Avoid overly wet conditions, as constantly saturated roots may reduce plant vigor.

Maintenance

Regularly removing faded flowers helps extend the display and keeps the plant looking tidy. Old stems and foliage can be cut back in early spring to encourage fresh new growth.

Location

A position in full sun or partial shade provides ideal growing conditions. Good light levels combined with suitable soil will encourage strong growth and reliable flowering.
