Angel’s fishing‑rod

Dierama pulcherrimum gives the garden an exceptionally delicate appearance with its long, gracefully arching flower stems. The bell-shaped flowers in shades of pink to violet appear to float above the narrow, grass-like foliage during summer. Its elegant growth habit makes this perennial an excellent focal point for sunny borders and sheltered locations.

Watering and Care

Dierama pulcherrimum grows best in well-drained soil that remains lightly moist without becoming waterlogged. During extended dry spells, additional watering helps maintain healthy growth and abundant flowering. Avoid overly wet conditions, as constantly saturated roots may reduce plant vigor.

Maintenance

Regularly removing faded flowers helps extend the display and keeps the plant looking tidy. Old stems and foliage can be cut back in early spring to encourage fresh new growth.

Location

A position in full sun or partial shade provides ideal growing conditions. Good light levels combined with suitable soil will encourage strong growth and reliable flowering.

Tip

Dierama pulcherrimum is an excellent choice for naturalistic borders and mixed perennial plantings. Many varieties are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators.
