Teasel

Dipsacus fullonum develops distinctive egg-shaped flower heads with violet-pink flowers that appear on strong, tall stems in summer. The architectural growth habit creates striking structures in the garden, while the decorative seed heads remain attractive well into winter. Many insects and later birds benefit from this native wild plant.

Watering and Care

Dipsacus fullonum grows best in well-drained soil that remains lightly moist without becoming waterlogged. During extended dry spells, additional watering helps maintain healthy growth and abundant flowering. Avoid overly wet conditions, as constantly saturated roots may reduce plant vigor.

Maintenance

Regularly removing faded flowers helps extend the display and keeps the plant looking tidy. Old stems and foliage can be cut back in early spring to encourage fresh new growth.

Location

A position in full sun or partial shade provides ideal growing conditions. Good light levels combined with suitable soil will encourage strong growth and reliable flowering.
