Barrenwort cantabrigiense

Epimedium × cantabrigiense produces delicate pale yellow flowers that brighten shaded gardens early in spring. Its heart-shaped foliage forms dense carpets and develops attractive bronze and red autumn colours, adding seasonal interest. Thanks to its vigorous growth, this variety is an excellent choice for covering larger shaded areas with attractive, low-maintenance planting.

Care/Water

Epimedium cantabrigiense requires consistent watering during the growing season. Keep the soil lightly moist, but avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot. Regular watering promotes strong shoots and healthy leaves.

Maintenance

Regularly remove old or damaged leaves to encourage fresh growth. Light pruning in spring supports new shoots and maintains plant health. Light fertilization in spring can further stimulate growth.

Location

Prefers partially shaded to shaded locations. Ideal for woodland gardens, borders, and shaded beds. Well-drained soil protects roots and promotes strong plants.

Mulching helps retain moisture and reduce weeds. Check soil moisture regularly, especially during dry spells, to ensure plant health.
