A reliable choice for striking vertical interest in borders, entrances, or medians.
Care and Watering
Water evenly for the first year; keep soil moist but not waterlogged. Plant in full sun to light shade and mulch to conserve moisture.
Location
Choose a spacious, well‑drained site with good air flow. Fastigiate birch prefers loam or sandy soils; avoid compact clay.
Maintenance
Minimal pruning is needed; remove dead or crossing branches in winter. Protect the trunk from lawn equipment with a mulch ring.
Tips
Fertilize lightly in spring if growth slows; refresh mulch annually and provide wind protection in exposed spots.
