Fragaria chiloensis is valued for its glossy foliage, pure white flowers, and aromatic fruits that have been appreciated for centuries. As a hardy groundcover, it is an excellent choice for naturalistic gardens and sunny open spaces while creating an attractive green carpet. It develops especially well in fertile, well-drained soils.
Care/Water
Fragaria chiloensis prefers humus-rich, well-drained soil that is kept moderately moist. During dry periods, water regularly to promote healthy foliage and aromatic fruits.
Maintenance
Regularly remove dead leaves and old flowers to stimulate new growth. Pruning after fruiting helps the plant develop new shoots.
Location
Prefers sunny locations but tolerates light partial shade. Perfect for beds, containers, or rock gardens where the fruits are decorative.
Tip
Mulch around the base to retain moisture and reduce weeds. This ensures healthy, aromatic fruits and makes maintenance easier.
