This classic garden pink forms a neat, low mound that lights borders with cheerful color and a vintage vibe. A compact, clumping perennial, it thrives in sun and well-drained soil, delivering steady flowering from late spring to midsummer. Perfect for borders, cottage gardens, and gravel areas, it pairs well with hardy perennials and adds enduring appeal to any planting scheme.

Care and Watering

Dianthus plumarius 'David' loves full sun and well-drained soil. Water moderately, keep the topsoil barely moist and avoid soggy roots; allow drying between waterings in hot weather.

Maintenance

Deadhead regularly to extend bloom. Trim spent stems after flowering and mulch to conserve moisture and deter weeds.

Location and Tips

Choose a sunny, breezy spot with good air flow. Space 20–25 cm apart and protect from winter wet by light mulch; propagation by division works well.

Garden pink Dianthus plumarius ‘David’ Grasanjer makes with his finely cut flowers a color accent in borders and rock gardens. The intense colors and the compact size provide playful contrasts between perennials and garden plants. Thanks to its noticeable, fragrant bloom, this cultivar attracts extra butterflies and bees and enhances the appearance of spring- and summer-bloomers.
