Crambe cordifolia Heartleaf Crambe is a striking plant with sturdy stems and heart-shaped leaves, forming a bold clump that rises with large, airy flower heads. It brings a strong, natural presence to any garden bed and creates a focal point with its powerful silhouette.
Its hardy character makes it a reliable addition to temperate borders, thriving in sun or partial shade and enriching the landscape with texture and structure.
A true perennial that returns year after year, it offers showy blooms and lasting appeal, adding a timeless, expansive presence to your outdoor space.
Care and Watering
Water deeply during dry spells, mulch to retain moisture, and ensure well-drained soil; prefers full sun to light shade and regular feeding in spring. Tip: avoid waterlogged roots.
Maintenance
Remove spent blooms, cut back after flowering, and divide every 3–4 years to keep clumps vigorous and reduce overcrowding.
Location
Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with rich, fertile soil and 2–3 ft spacing; provide sturdy support for tall flower spikes if needed.
The ornamental value of sea kale (Crambe cordifolia) lies in its impressive, white cloud-like inflorescences and softly undulating leaves: beautiful white plumes that give borders an airy, sculptural touch. As a striking spring- and summer-bloomer, it forms an atmospheric contrast with other perennials. Moreover, it attracts bees and butterflies, ideal for nature-oriented gardens.
