The vigorous clump-forming plant thrives in moist, shaded soils and grows to a compact size, delivering a refined presence in beds and containers.
A versatile shade garden choice, it provides enduring foliage texture with year-round interest and hardy performance in cool climates.
Care and Watering
Aureomarginata thrives in partial to full shade with rich, well-drained soil. Keep evenly moist during the growing season and water deeply during dry spells. Mulch to preserve moisture and protect roots.
Maintenance
Remove spent leaves in fall, and divide every 4–5 years to maintain vigor. Deadhead lightly and monitor for slugs.
Location
Place in partial shade away from hot afternoon sun; protect from drying winds. A sheltered border bed or container works well.
Tips
Feed lightly in spring with a balanced fertilizer; avoid overfeeding. Mulch with organic matter and water in the mornings.
Hosta fortunei ‘Aureomarginata’ is a mood-setter with striking foliage and elegant flowering. The plant stands out immediately thanks to its finely drawn margins and rich texture.
The yellow edge along the dark-green leaves provides a beautiful contrast; a subtle summer bloomer that works purely decoratively. Perfect to add more depth and calm to borders without overpowering.
Pairs nicely with ferns and other shade plants for an atmospheric, natural whole.
