Bearded iris 'On Edge'

Iris germanica 'On Edge' is admired for its remarkable flower pattern. The pale petals are outlined with a contrasting violet edge, giving every bloom a striking and expressive appearance. Large flowers appear in late spring on sturdy stems above the decorative sword-shaped foliage. This hardy variety creates bold focal points in sunny borders while attracting numerous bees and other pollinators.

Care/Water

The Iris 'On Edge' requires regular watering throughout the growing season. The soil should be well-drained so excess water can escape. Consistent moisture supports strong roots and healthy foliage. Water in the morning during hot summer weeks to protect leaves and flowers.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers and old leaves. Light pruning after flowering keeps the plant compact and encourages new shoots. Consistent care ensures long-lasting blooms and vigorous plants.

Location

This Iris prefers a sunny, well-ventilated location. Partial shade is tolerated but may reduce flowering. An open spot helps prevent disease.

Tip

Loosen the soil regularly and apply a thin mulch layer to retain moisture and nutrients. This greatly eases maintenance and protects the plant from drying out.
