Bearded iris 'Sable'

Iris germanica 'Sable' captivates with velvety flowers in deep purple to almost black-violet shades, creating an exceptionally elegant display. During late spring, the dramatic blooms provide stunning contrast against lighter garden plants. The grey-green foliage offers attractive structure throughout the season and enhances the plant's graceful upright habit. This hardy bearded iris creates striking highlights in sunny landscapes.

Care/Water

The Iris 'Sable' requires regular watering throughout the growing season. The soil should be well-drained to prevent standing water. Consistent moisture supports strong roots and healthy foliage. Water in the morning during hot summer days to protect leaves and flowers.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers and old leaves. Trim damaged leaves to encourage new shoots. Light pruning after flowering supports abundant blooms next year.

Location

A sunny, well-ventilated location is ideal. Partial shade is tolerated but reduces flowering. An open spot protects the plant from fungal diseases and promotes healthy shoots.

Tip

Loosen the soil regularly and apply a thin mulch layer to retain moisture and nutrients. This makes maintenance easier and keeps the plants vigorous.
