Bearded iris 'Sultan's Palace'

Iris germanica 'Sultan's Palace' is renowned for its intensely velvety deep red flowers, among the richest colours found in bearded irises. Large, elegantly shaped blooms appear in May and June on strong stems above the sword-shaped foliage. This hardy perennial creates dramatic contrasts in sunny borders and pairs beautifully with yellow or cream-flowering companion plants.

Care/Water

The Iris 'Sultan's Palace' requires regular watering throughout the growing season, especially on hot summer days. The soil should be loose and well-drained to prevent standing water. Consistent moisture promotes strong roots and healthy foliage. Morning watering protects leaves and flowers from drying out.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers and old leaves to keep the plant compact and vital. Trim damaged leaves to encourage new shoots. Light pruning after flowering ensures abundant blooms next year.

Location

This Iris prefers a sunny, well-ventilated location. Partial shade is tolerated but reduces flowering. An open spot protects the plant from fungal diseases and supports healthy shoots.

Tip

Loosen the soil regularly and apply a thin mulch layer to retain moisture and nutrients. This eases maintenance and promotes healthy plants.

Iris germanica 'Sultan's Palace' combines fresh green foliage with flowers that give borders a luxurious and striking accent. The foliage supports the blooms and keeps the plant healthy and graceful.
