Dwarf iris 'Cyanea'

Iris pumila 'Cyanea' creates striking spring displays with its rich dark blue to violet flowers. The large blooms appear early in the season, contrasting beautifully with the grey-green foliage. Thanks to its low, compact habit, this hardy dwarf bearded iris is an excellent choice for rock gardens, dry stone walls, and sunny alpine-style plantings.

Care/Water

The Iris pumila 'Cyanea' requires regular watering throughout the growing season, especially on hot days. The soil should always be slightly moist, well-drained, and nutrient-rich to support strong leaves and healthy shoots. Water directly at the roots and avoid wetting the foliage to prevent fungal diseases. Consistent moisture supports intense flowering and strong leaf growth.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers to allow the plant to focus energy on new buds. Trim old or damaged leaves after flowering. Use organic fertilizer in spring to promote growth and flowering. Check the plant regularly for pests or diseased leaves to maintain its health.

Location

This Iris thrives in a sunny location with good air circulation. Partial shade is possible but may reduce flowering. Ensure the soil is well-drained to prevent root rot. An open spot supports vigorous shoots and healthy foliage.

Tip

A helpful tip is to apply a thin mulch layer around the plant after flowering to retain moisture and nutrients. This keeps the plant vital and ready for the next flowering period. Regular checks make maintenance easier.

Iris pumila 'Cyanea' offers compact fresh green foliage with flowers that give rock gardens and borders an intense blue accent. The foliage supports the blooms and keeps the plant healthy and attractive.
