Dwarf iris 'Gleaming Gold'

Iris pumila 'Gleaming Gold' shines with brilliant golden-yellow flowers that become a radiant focal point in spring. This early-flowering dwarf bearded iris grows into compact clumps of narrow grey-green foliage. Its vivid flower colour adds warmth to rock gardens, sunny borders, and gravel beds. The hardy variety is also highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects during flowering.

Care/Water

The Iris pumila 'Gleaming Gold' requires regular watering during the growing season, especially on hot or dry days. The soil should always be slightly moist, well-drained, and nutrient-rich to support strong shoots and healthy foliage. Water directly at the roots and avoid wetting the foliage to prevent fungal problems. Consistent moisture promotes flowering and robust plant growth.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers to allow the plant to focus energy on new buds. Trim old or damaged leaves after flowering. Use organic fertilizer in spring to support growth and flowering. Check the plant regularly for pests or diseased leaves to maintain vitality.

Location

This Iris thrives in a sunny location with good air circulation. Partial shade is possible but may reduce flowering. Ensure the soil is well-drained to prevent root rot. An open spot promotes vigorous shoots and healthy foliage.

Tip

A helpful tip is to apply a thin mulch layer around the plant after flowering to retain moisture and nutrients. This keeps the plant vital and ready for the next flowering period. Regular checks make maintenance much easier.

Iris pumila 'Gleaming Gold' offers compact fresh green foliage with flowers that give rock gardens and borders a striking yellow accent. The foliage supports the blooms and keeps the plant healthy and attractive.
