Dwarf iris 'Schwanensee'

Iris pumila 'Schwanensee' features elegant pure white flowers that create a fresh contrast against the grey-green foliage in early spring. This compact dwarf bearded iris forms dense clumps and is perfectly suited to rock gardens, border edges, and sunny planting areas. Its classic flower shape and crisp white colour bring timeless elegance to any garden while attracting numerous pollinating insects.

Care/Water

The Iris pumila 'Schwanensee' requires regular watering during the growing season, especially on hot or dry days. The soil should always be slightly moist, well-drained, and nutrient-rich to promote strong shoots and healthy leaves. Water directly at the roots and avoid wetting the foliage to prevent fungal diseases. Consistent moisture supports flowering and robust plant growth.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers to direct energy toward new buds. Trim old or damaged leaves after flowering to promote healthy growth. Use organic fertilizer in spring to support growth and flowering. Check the plant regularly for pests or diseased leaves.

Location

This Iris thrives in a sunny location with good air circulation. Partial shade is possible but may reduce flowering. Ensure the soil is well-drained to prevent root rot. An open spot promotes vigorous shoots and healthy foliage.

Tip

A helpful tip is to apply a thin mulch layer around the plant after flowering to retain moisture and nutrients. This keeps the plant vital and ready for the next flowering period. Regular checks make maintenance easier.

Iris pumila 'Schwanensee' combines fresh green foliage with elegant pastel-colored blooms, adding a soft, harmonious accent to borders and rock gardens. The foliage supports the flowers and keeps the plant healthy.
