Long-tubed isodon

Isodon longitubus brightens the late summer and autumn garden with numerous delicate lavender-blue tubular flowers, blooming when many other perennials have already finished. Its loosely branched stems and fresh green foliage give the plant a light, natural appearance. Growing upright, it blends beautifully into partially shaded perennial borders. The late-season flowers provide a valuable food source for bees and other beneficial insects.

Care/Water

Isodon longitubus requires consistent watering throughout the growing season. Especially during hot summer months, ensure the soil stays slightly moist and well-drained to support strong shoots and healthy foliage. Water directly at the roots and avoid wetting the foliage to prevent fungal issues. Balanced watering encourages abundant flowers and vital plants.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers to focus the plant's energy on new growth. Trim dead or damaged shoots to maintain healthy plants. Use organic fertilizer in spring to encourage growth and flowering. Check the plant regularly for pests or diseases.

Location

Isodon longitubus prefers a sunny to partially shaded location with good air circulation. Partial shade is possible but may reduce flowering. The soil should be well-drained to prevent root rot. Open locations promote vigorous shoots and healthy foliage.

Tip

A useful tip is to apply a mulch layer after flowering to retain moisture and nutrients. This makes maintenance easier and ensures healthy plants for the next season. Regular checks keep the plant vital and healthy.

Isodon longitubus features fresh foliage and slender flower spikes, elegantly accenting borders. The foliage supports the blooms and keeps the plant attractive and healthy.
