Arum italicum Italian Arum is a striking perennial with glossy, variegated leaves and a compact habit. This hardy plant shines in shady spots, delivering bold presence with its early-season spadix. Arum italicum Italian Arum is naturally resilient and easy to grow in cool temperate gardens. Its leaves emerge in spring and mature into dramatic ground cover, featuring variegated foliage and a distinctive spadix tucked in a pale spathe. The plant creates an intriguing, low-profile silhouette year after year. Grows well in temperate regions and tolerates partial shade, making it a versatile addition to borders or containers. An adaptable choice for gardeners seeking green drama with minimal fuss.

Care and Watering

Arum italicum enjoys evenly moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly during the growing season and reduce in dormancy. Avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot.

Maintenance

Mulch in spring and remove spent foliage after frost. Divide clumps every 3–5 years to maintain vigor and control spread.

Location

Plant in partial shade to dappled sun; thrives in rich, humus-rich soil and sheltered beds. It tolerates more shade than most perennials.

Tips

Wear gloves when handling; Arum italicum can spread by rhizomes. Use borders to contain it and plant in pots if needed.

Arum italicum, the Italian arum, is a striking focal point with glossy, marbled leaves and graceful white flowers that subtly contrast spring scenes. Its graphic leaf pattern and compact growth add ornamental value, texture, and a colorful accent to mixed planting and floral arrangements.
