Sheep's bit 'Blaulicht'

Jasione laevis 'Blaulicht' stands out with its spherical, intensely blue flower heads that float above the low foliage from June through August. This compact wild perennial adds a natural charm to rock gardens, gravel beds, and sunny borders. Its nectar-rich flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and butterflies throughout the flowering season. Thanks to its excellent winter hardiness, it remains a reliable garden favourite for many years.

Care/Water

Jasione laevis 'Blaulicht' requires regular watering during the growing season, especially on hot summer days. The soil should be slightly moist, well-drained, and nutrient-rich to support strong shoots, healthy foliage, and long flowering periods. Water at the roots and avoid wet foliage to prevent fungal issues. Consistent watering ensures healthy plants and abundant blooms.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers so the plant can focus its energy on new buds. Trim old or damaged leaves to encourage healthy growth. Organic fertilizer in spring supports flowering and strong plants. Check the plant regularly for pests or diseases.

Location

This Jasione grows best in a sunny location with good air circulation. Partial shade is possible but may reduce flowering. Ensure the soil is well-drained to prevent root rot. Open locations promote vigorous shoots and healthy foliage.

Tip

A practical tip is to apply a mulch layer after flowering to retain moisture and nutrients. This makes maintenance easier and supports healthy plants for the next flowering period. Regular checks keep the plant vital and healthy.

Jasione laevis 'Blaulicht' offers fresh foliage and delicate blue blooms, enlivening perennial beds and wet areas with a friendly touch. The foliage supports the flowers and maintains plant health.
