Its dark foliage contrasts with the blooms, and its robust flowering stems lend an architectural plant presence in borders and beds.
Ideal for gardeners seeking a standout specimen, it thrives in well-drained soil and sunny to light shade, a perennial that invites pollinators.
Care and Watering
Angelica gigas loves rich, well‑drained soil. Keep evenly moist in growing season but never waterlogged; mulch to hold moisture and reduce weeds.
Maintenance
Deadhead lightly and remove spent stems after flowering; divide every 4–5 years and feed with a balanced March fertilizer.
Location
Choose a sheltered spot with morning sun and afternoon shade in hot areas; ensure steady moisture and protection from strong winds.
Tips
Top with compost, water at soil level, avoid overfertilizing, and stake tall stems if needed.
Korean Angelica (Angelica gigas) adds with its dramatic, dark-purple flower heads a striking accent to borders and prairie planting. The tall silhouettes and deep color create a decorative value that nicely contrasts with ornamental grasses and lighter bloomers.
Frequently used as a cut and dried flower, this summer bloomer also attracts butterflies and bees, thereby enhancing any natural planting display.
