English lavender 'Alba'

Lavandula angustifolia 'Alba' ('Arctic Snow') is admired for its pure white flower spikes that contrast beautifully with its silvery grey-green foliage. From June through August, the fragrant flowers release a delightful aroma while attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Its compact habit makes this hardy lavender an excellent choice for sunny borders, herb gardens, and low hedges.

Care/Water

Lavandula angustifolia 'Alba' requires regular watering during the growing season, especially during warm and dry periods. The soil should be well-drained, slightly alkaline, and moderately moist to support healthy shoots and abundant flowering. Water at the base and avoid wetting the leaves to prevent fungal diseases. Consistent watering ensures healthy plants and prolonged flowering for several weeks.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers so the plant can focus its energy on new shoots and blooms. Light pruning in spring and after flowering maintains a compact shape. Organic fertilizer in spring supports strong plants and abundant blooms. Regularly check for pests to ensure long-term health.

Location

This lavender prefers sunny locations with well-drained soil. Partially shaded spots are possible but may result in less abundant flowering. Open locations encourage strong plants, healthy foliage, and consistent blooming throughout the season.

Tip

A helpful tip is to apply a light mulch around the base after flowering to retain moisture and prevent weeds. Regular removal of faded blooms keeps the plant healthy and ensures a long-lasting summer flowering.
