  • Robust marsh plant for pond edges.
  • Improves biodiversity and provides shelter for animals.
  • Low-maintenance and winter-hardy.
  • Effective water purification through root structure.
  • Elegant shoreline plant with a natural appearance.
Typha laxmannii Laxmann's Cattail is a hardy aquatic plant with tall, graceful stalks and distinctive seedheads. Glossy green leaves emerge from a creeping rhizome, creating a striking presence in water. It thrives in shallow wetlands, forming dense stands that filter water and support pond wildlife. Leaves are sword-shaped and rise prominently above the surface. A versatile, robust growth and seasonal interest plant for natural ponds and wetlands, adding texture and density to water margins.

Care & Watering

Typha laxmannii thrives in full sun to partial shade, in damp soil or shallow water. Keep the soil consistently moist, water regularly in dry spells, and avoid stagnant, poorly circulated water.

Location & Planting

Plant along pond margins, in a bog garden, or in a container with at least 15–20 cm water above soil. Use a nutrient-rich, well-drained substrate and give space for spread.

Maintenance & Tips

Divide every 2–3 years to control spread, remove dead foliage, and monitor for pests. Mulch lightly in cool regions and enjoy the architectural, vertical blooms.

Typha laxmannii (Laxmann's cattail) gives every large-scale border planting a natural, sculptural touch with slender stems and compact, fluffy panicles. Due to its refined profile, this species works excellently as an ornamental accent in pond-themed plantings and ecological plantings. The warm autumn tones and texture provide a lasting visual impact and contrast between leaf and stem.
