Alpine toadflax

Linaria alpina enchants with its distinctive two-toned flowers in violet and orange that bloom from spring into summer. This compact alpine perennial grows low to the ground, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, dry stone walls, and alpine plantings. Its fine blue-green foliage beautifully complements the unusual flower colours. The nectar-rich blooms are eagerly visited by small pollinators.

Care/Water

Linaria alpina requires regular watering during the growing season, especially in dry summer months. The soil should be well-drained, slightly rocky, and moderately moist to promote healthy shoots and strong flowers. Water carefully at the base and avoid wetting foliage to prevent fungal diseases. Consistent moisture supports flowering and healthy plant development.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers to encourage new shoots. Pruning after flowering keeps the plant compact and vital. Organic fertilizer in spring supports strong flowers and healthy shoots. Check the plant regularly for pests.

Location

This Linaria prefers sunny to partially shaded locations with well-drained, slightly rocky soil. Avoid waterlogging as it can damage the roots. Open, airy spots promote strong flowers and healthy plant development.

Tip

Lightly mulch around the base to retain moisture and reduce weeds. This supports plant health and encourages abundant flowering throughout the season.

Linaria alpina impresses with fine leaves and small, vibrant flowers, elegantly accenting rock gardens and beds. The foliage supports the flowers and ensures healthy plants.
