Dark-red loosestrife

Lysimachia atropurpurea immediately attracts attention with its slender, deep purple flower spikes. The unusual flower colour creates a beautiful contrast with the silvery-green foliage, adding elegant accents from June through August. This upright perennial provides structure in sunny borders and gravel gardens, while its nectar-rich flowers are eagerly visited by bees and butterflies.

Care/Water

Lysimachia atropurpurea requires regular watering during the growing season, especially in hot, dry weather. The soil should be consistently moist, well-drained, and nutrient-rich to support strong flowers and healthy foliage. Water at the base and avoid wetting the leaves to prevent fungal diseases. Consistent moisture promotes healthy plants and lush flowering.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers to encourage new blooms. Cut back old or damaged shoots to stimulate fresh growth. Organic fertilizer supports strong flowers and healthy foliage. Check the plant regularly for pests.

Location

Lysimachia atropurpurea prefers sunny to partially shaded locations with moist, well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogging to prevent root damage. Open spots promote strong plants and long flowering periods.

Tip

Light mulch around the base helps retain moisture and keep roots cool. This supports strong plants and extends flowering time.

Lysimachia atropurpurea features dense green foliage and striking flowers, prominently accenting beds and borders. The foliage supports flower development and contributes to plant vitality.
