May lily

Maianthemum bifolium, commonly known as false lily of the valley, is a native woodland perennial with delicate star-shaped white flowers that bloom in spring. Its heart-shaped leaves form dense colonies, creating a natural ground cover in shady gardens. Decorative red berries follow the flowers, adding seasonal interest. This hardy species is ideal for woodland gardens and shaded borders.

Care/Water

Maianthemum bifolium requires regular watering during the growing season, especially in warm weather. The soil should be moist, well-drained, and rich in organic matter to support healthy foliage and strong blooms. Water at the base and avoid wetting the leaves to prevent fungal diseases. Consistent moisture promotes healthy plants and long flowering periods.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers to stimulate new blooms. Cut back old or damaged shoots to encourage fresh growth. Organic fertilizer supports healthy flowers and foliage. Check the plant regularly for pests.

Location

Maianthemum bifolium prefers partially shaded to shaded locations with moist, humus-rich soil. Avoid waterlogging to prevent root damage. Open areas with good air circulation promote healthy plants and long flowering periods.

Tip

Organic mulch helps retain moisture and keep roots cool. This supports healthy plants and extends flowering time.

Maianthemum bifolium features delicate green foliage and subtle flowers, harmoniously accenting beds and borders. The foliage supports the flowers and ensures healthy plants.
