Perfect for borders and mixed beds, this plant adds garden-friendly growth and a classic touch to any outdoor space.

Care and Watering

Lychnis chalcedonica (Maltese Cross) loves full sun and well-drained soil; water regularly while establishing, then moderate watering and avoid soggy roots. Mulch to retain moisture.

Maintenance

Deadhead after flowering, divide every 3–4 years, and remove spent stalks to keep the plant tidy and vigorous.

Location and Tips

Plant in a bright border or meadow garden; provide 18–24 inches spacing, supports if tall, and enjoy as a bold cut flower with long-lasting blooms.

Lychnis chalcedonica, known as Scarlet Lychnis, is a sight in the border thanks to its distinctive, fiery-red flowers. The plant’s firework adds liveliness and contrast to mixed perennial borders and cut flower arrangements.
