Common mallow

Malva sylvestris produces large rosy-purple flowers with distinctive dark veining from early summer until autumn. This loosely upright wild perennial brings a romantic atmosphere to cottage gardens and naturalistic landscapes. Its open flowers are eagerly visited by bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, while the fresh green foliage complements the exceptionally long flowering season.

Care/Water

Malva sylvestris requires regular watering during the growing season, especially in hot and dry weather. The soil should be consistently moist, well-drained, and nutrient-rich to support strong flowers and healthy foliage. Water at the base and avoid wetting the leaves to prevent fungal diseases. Consistent moisture promotes healthy plants and lush flowering.

Maintenance

Regularly remove faded flowers to stimulate new blooms. Cut back old or damaged shoots to encourage fresh growth. Organic fertilizer supports strong flowers and healthy foliage. Check the plant regularly for pests.

Location

Malva sylvestris prefers sunny to partially shaded locations with moist, well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogging to prevent root damage. Open spots promote strong plants and long flowering periods.

Tip

Light mulch around the base helps retain moisture and keep roots cool. This supports strong plants and extends flowering time.

Malva sylvestris features rich green foliage and decorative flowers, strikingly accenting beds and borders. The foliage supports the flowers and contributes to plant vitality.
