Lemon catnip

Nepeta cataria ssp. citriodora is distinguished by its fresh lemon-scented foliage, which gives this plant a unique aromatic character. During summer, it produces numerous white to pale violet flowers rich in nectar. This hardy perennial grows into bushy clumps and is perfect for herb gardens, scented gardens, and sunny wildlife plantings. Bees and other pollinators visit the flowers in abundance.

Care/Water

Nepeta cataria ssp. citriodora requires regular watering during the growing season, especially in warm weather. The soil should be well-drained, humus-rich, and evenly moist to ensure healthy growth and aromatic, lemon-scented leaves. Consistent watering supports compact growth and strong blooms.

Maintenance

Lightly prune the plant after flowering to encourage new leaf and flower growth. Regularly remove faded flower spikes to maintain plant vitality. Organic fertilization in spring supports healthy development and aroma production.

Location

Nepeta cataria ssp. citriodora prefers a sunny location with well-drained soil. Full sun encourages the most aromatic leaves, while partial shade protects the plant from drying out. Good air circulation prevents fungal diseases and promotes healthy plants.
