Lilyturf

Ophiopogon planiscapus features narrow dark green foliage that resembles fine ornamental grass and provides lasting structure throughout the year. Delicate pale violet flowers appear in summer, followed by glossy dark berries. Its clump-forming habit makes this hardy perennial a versatile addition to borders, rock gardens, and containers. It performs particularly well in partially shaded locations, where its elegant appearance truly stands out.

Care/Water

Ophiopogon planiscapus requires regular watering during the growing season, especially during warm and dry periods. The soil should be rich in organic matter, well-drained, and consistently moist to promote strong leaves and healthy roots. Avoid waterlogging, which can cause root rot. Consistent watering supports dense, attractive plantings.

Maintenance

Regularly remove dead leaves to keep the plant tidy. Prune weak or damaged shoots to maintain its shape. Organic fertilization in spring promotes healthy growth and strong foliage. Ensure proper air circulation to prevent fungal problems.

Location

Ophiopogon planiscapus thrives in partial to full shade. Full sun may burn the leaves. Soil should be nutrient-rich and loose to allow water to drain well. This plant is perfect as ground cover or in containers.

Tip

Apply mulch around the plant to retain moisture and reduce weeds. Plant multiple specimens together for an even, decorative surface. The plant attracts beneficial insects like bees and is easy to maintain. Check regularly for pests to ensure long-term health.
