Mentha pulegium European Pennyroyal (Pennyroyal) is a compact, aromatic mint with a fresh, herbaceous scent. Its leaves release a bright, minty aroma when crushed, adding lively notes to herb blends, infusions and lighter dishes. It is a hardy perennial, thriving in sunny spots and well-drained soil, forming a neat clump with slender stems and rounded, aromatic leaves. Versatile and tasty, it enhances fresh teas, pâtés, sauces and herbal mixes, delivering a gentle minty finish that lingers pleasantly.

Care and Watering

Mentha pulegium prefers moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly to keep soil evenly damp; avoid waterlogging. Mulch to retain moisture.

Maintenance

Trim after flowering to control spread. Divide every 2–3 years and prune regularly to keep a bushy habit.

Location

Choose full sun to partial shade. Plant in a wide pot or edge bed to contain runners and prevent invasion.

Tips

Harvest frequently, pinch tips for bushier growth, and monitor for pests. Note: pennyroyal can be toxic if ingested in large amounts.
