Canadian burnet

Sanguisorba canadensis develops tall, upright flower stems with long cream-white flower spikes that appear above the fresh green foliage in midsummer. The delicate flowers give the plant a light, natural appearance and attract numerous bees and butterflies. This hardy perennial is especially suitable for moist borders, natural gardens, and larger perennial plantings.

Watering and Care

Sanguisorba canadensis performs best in a well-prepared garden soil that offers both good drainage and sufficient moisture retention. During dry spells, supplemental watering helps maintain strong growth and allows the plant to display its full ornamental value. Consistent moisture levels also support healthy foliage and reliable flowering.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance keeps the plant looking attractive throughout the season. Removing faded flowers, damaged leaves and older stems encourages fresh growth and helps maintain a tidy appearance.

Location

A suitable location with the right balance of light and space allows the plant to thrive. Well-aerated soil and good air circulation contribute to long-term health and vigor.

Tip

Combine this plant with contrasting perennials, ornamental grasses or shrubs to create dynamic garden compositions with year-round interest.

Sanguisorba canadensis stands out with tall, elegant flower stalks with small cream-colored flowers. The plant looks decorative and light in sunny to partially shaded beds.
