Saxifraga arendsii ‘Schneeteppich’ Arends' Saxifrage (Mossy Saxifrage) is a low-growing, compact perennial with soft, moss-like foliage and delicate leaves that form a lush carpet. Its charm lies in a natural, timeless look that blends with stones and beds.
The plant produces tiny, understated blooms that add a whisper of color without overwhelming the ground cover. Its appearance is versatile, complementing a range of greens with a fresh, alpine vibe.
Ideal for sunny to lightly shaded spots, this hardy Saxifraga thrives in well-drained soil, creating a resilient, evergreen presence year after year. A true classic for rock gardens and borders.
Care and Watering
Choose well-drained, gritty soil and bright, indirect light. Water when the top inch dries, avoiding standing water; use rainwater if possible and keep evenly moist but not soggy.
Maintenance
Light pruning to remove dead leaves, tidy growth, and divide every 3–4 years to refresh vigor.
Location
Ideal for rock gardens, troughs, and alpine borders; tolerates sun if kept moist, with cool roots and good air circulation.
Tips
Mulch lightly in winter, avoid heavy shade, propagate by division, and monitor for mildew in damp summers.
Saxifraga arendsii ‘Schneeteppich’ Steenbreek forms an elegant, compact carpet of fine leaves with an abundance of small, white flowers that give a fresh early-spring impression.
The soft, low-growing habit provides a beautiful textural contrast and refines borders and accents with a subtle, naturalistic effect.
Moreover this spring bloomer is loved by butterflies and bees, ideal for those who want to add natural appeal.
