Hoary skullcap

Scutellaria incana produces numerous blue-violet flowers arranged on upright spikes from July to September, creating an attractive contrast with the fresh green foliage. The bushy growth habit provides a harmonious appearance in sunny perennial borders and natural gardens. The nectar-rich flowers are popular with bees, bumblebees, and butterflies.

Watering and Care

Scutellaria incana performs best in a well-prepared garden soil that offers both good drainage and sufficient moisture retention. During dry spells, supplemental watering helps maintain strong growth and allows the plant to display its full ornamental value. Consistent moisture levels also support healthy foliage and reliable flowering.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance keeps the plant looking attractive throughout the season. Removing faded flowers, damaged leaves and older stems encourages fresh growth and helps maintain a tidy appearance.

Location

A suitable location with the right balance of light and space allows the plant to thrive. Well-aerated soil and good air circulation contribute to long-term health and vigor.
