Stonecrop 'Chocolate Ball'

Sedum reflexum 'Chocolate Ball' is distinguished by its unusual bronze-brown to chocolate-coloured needle-like foliage, which forms dense cushions. Bright yellow star-shaped flowers appear in summer, creating a striking colour contrast. This hardy variety is ideal for rock gardens, green roofs, and dry stone walls, and its flowers are popular with bees.

Watering and Care

Sedum reflexum 'Chocolate Ball' is highly drought tolerant and requires very little supplemental water once established. Water regularly during the initial rooting period, then reduce watering significantly. Good drainage is essential, as excessive moisture can negatively affect plant health.

Maintenance

This hardy cultivar requires very little maintenance. Faded flower stems may be removed to keep the plant tidy. A light trim in spring can encourage fresh growth, although it generally maintains a pleasing shape on its own.

Location

For the richest foliage color, plant in full sun and well-drained soil. It is ideal for rock gardens, gravel plantings, dry borders, and container displays. The unique chocolate-toned foliage adds year-round visual interest.

Tip

Combine with silver-leaved plants or bright flowering perennials to emphasize the unusual dark foliage and create striking garden contrasts.

Sedum reflexum 'Chocolate Ball' stands out with spherical, dark red flower clusters that enhance flower beds, borders, and rock gardens in summer. Especially decorative when paired with green or silvery foliage for striking contrasts.

The blooms attract bees, providing lively accents.
