Cup plant

Silphium perfoliatum develops strong, upright stems with large, bright yellow flowers that appear from July to September. The distinctive cup-shaped leaves that surround the stems give the plant its characteristic appearance. As a majestic wild perennial, it is excellent for natural gardens and larger plantings and provides bees and butterflies with an abundant food source.

Watering and Care

Silphium perfoliatum performs best in a well-prepared garden soil that offers both good drainage and sufficient moisture retention. During dry spells, supplemental watering helps maintain strong growth and allows the plant to display its full ornamental value. Consistent moisture levels also support healthy foliage and reliable flowering.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance keeps the plant looking attractive throughout the season. Removing faded flowers, damaged leaves and older stems encourages fresh growth and helps maintain a tidy appearance.

Location

A suitable location with the right balance of light and space allows the plant to thrive. Well-aerated soil and good air circulation contribute to long-term health and vigor.
