Rough-stemmed goldenrod

Solidago rugosa develops dense golden-yellow flower panicles on strong upright stems and provides intense colour accents well into autumn. The fresh green foliage forms vigorous clumps and complements the natural growth habit. This hardy species is especially suitable for naturalistic plantings and moist locations and is frequently visited by many insects.

Watering and Care

Solidago rugosa prefers fresh to moderately moist soil and tolerates occasional drought once established. Regular watering during extended hot periods helps maintain vigorous growth and abundant flowering. Humus-rich, well-drained soil is ideal.

Maintenance

This durable goldenrod requires very little care. Cut back old stems in early spring and allow the plant to develop strong, long-lived clumps with minimal intervention.

Location

Grow in full sun or light partial shade. It performs particularly well in wildlife gardens, naturalistic borders, and large perennial plantings.

Tip

Its late flowering season provides valuable nectar for pollinators when many other garden plants have finished blooming.

Solidago rugosa adds summer fullness to flower beds, borders, and natural-style gardens with dense golden-yellow flower clusters. Especially decorative in group plantings or natural-style perennial beds, where it adds structure and color.

The blooms attract bees and butterflies, enlivening the garden.
