- Purple flower spikes in late summer.
- Easy-care and long-lasting.
- Attractive for pollinators.
- Perfect for herb and perennial beds.
- Hardy and robust.
Stachys officinalis forms compact clumps of dark green, softly hairy foliage and produces dense spikes of rich purple-violet flowers throughout summer. This native wildflower brings a natural character to flower meadows, wildlife gardens, and perennial borders. Its hardy nature and nectar-rich flowers make it an invaluable plant for bees, bumblebees, and many other beneficial pollinating insects.
Watering and Care
Stachys officinalis prefers fresh, well-drained soil and benefits from additional watering during prolonged dry spells. Once established, it tolerates short periods of drought but performs best with consistent moisture.
Maintenance
This hardy perennial requires little maintenance. Remove faded flower spikes if desired and cut back old growth in spring before new shoots emerge.
Location
Plant in full sun or partial shade with humus-rich soil. It is well suited to cottage gardens, wildlife plantings, and mixed perennial borders.
Tip
The striking flower spikes attract a wide variety of pollinating insects throughout summer.
Stachys officinalis adds summer structure to flower beds, borders, and natural-style gardens with bright pink to purple blooms appearing in dense spikes. Especially decorative in natural perennial beds or rock gardens.
The blooms attract bees and butterflies, providing lively accents.
